Il tedesco Julian Kern nuovo campione europeo under 23 su strada
L’ultimo sussulto all’Europeo 2011 di Offida lo ha offerto il tedesco Julian Kern che ha
vinto la gara più attesa, quella su strada degli under 23: Kern ha messo in fila quattro
avversari con i quali era scattato all’ultimo dei dodici giri di circuito in programma. “Questa
vittoria è stata una sorpresa anche per me. – ha detto Kern – Sono stato convocato in
extremis e non ero il capitano della squadra. Anzi, il campionato europeo è la mia prima
vittoria stagionale… immaginate la mia gioia”.
Sul podio sono saliti due atleti bielorussi, Siarhei Novikau e Kanstantin Klimiankou. Quarto
l’ucraino Topchankyuk, quinto l’azzurro Mattia Cattaneo. Proprio quest’ultimo ha fatto
esplodere il drappello dei cinque uomini migliori, scattando a 3 chilometri dall’arrivo. Tra i
migliori protagonisti della gara si è segnalato l’italiano Fabio Aru , in fuga solitaria durante
la parte centrale della corsa.
Con la gara under 23 si è conclusa la rassegna continentale. Il medagliere finale 2011
vede prima la Francia seguita dall’Italia, entrambe con tre medaglie d’oro, quindi Russia,
Germania, Bielorussia, Belgio, Lussemburgo, Lituania, Norvegia, Olanda.

Alle ore 13.00 partono 166 corridori; in programma 12 giri di circuito per un totale di km
165, 8.
Primo giro concluso a ranghi compatti; durante il secondo giro scattano due atleti: il 175
(ROU) Gradinaru e il 186 (RUS) Razumov, a 58″ il gruppo. Al km 48 il gruppo torna
compatto.
Al km 56 scatta il n° 67 (FRA) TORTELIER, Al km 65 scattano in sei; (AUT) Preidler,
(FRA) Tortelier, (IRL) Bennett, (BEL) Allegaert, (FRA) Viennet, (ITA) Aru, a 40″ il gruppo.
KM 75 – Il drappello di testa incrementa il vantaggio sul gruppo portandosi a 1’55”.
All’inseguimento dei 6 di testa si portano il n° 157 (POL) Warchol, 151 (POL) Domagalski
e 221 (ESP) AllueSiamo a metà gara e la situazione è la seguente a 38″ 157 (POL)
Warchol, a 1’50” 151 (POL) Domagalski 221 (ESP) Allue, a 2’35” il gruppo.
KM 95 – Dai 6 di testa troviamo a 1’12” il 157 (POL) Warchol, 151 (POL) Domagalski, 17
(BLR) Klimiankou, 189 (RUS) Zakarin, il gruppo a 1’43” il gruppo. Al km 105 c’è la
reazione del gruppo che si porta a 48″ dal drappello dei 6 fuggitivi.
KM 110,4 conclusione dell’8° giro… troviamo solitario in testa il n°101 (ITA) ARU, a 51″ 12
(AUT) Preidler, 67 (FRA) Tortelier, 68 (FRA) Viennet, il gruppo a 1’35”. Proseguie la
marcia di Fabio Aru. Al km 117 l’azzurro conduce con 55″ su (AUT) Preidler, 67 (FRA)
Tortelier, 68 (FRA) Viennet 103 (ITA) Boem, il gruppo a 2’25”. Al km 135 il gruppo torna
compatto.
Al km 144 il gruppo si spezza in due; al comando rimangono 26 corridori da cui si
seleziona un gruppetto di 9 corridori: 17 (BLR) Klimiankou, 65 (FRA) Molard, 103 (ITA)
Boem, 164 (POR) Gonzalves, 20 (BLR) Novikau, 62 (FRA) Domont, 104 (ITA) Cattaneo,
246 (UKR) Topchanyuk , 69 (GER) Kern.
Al suono della campana dell’ultimo giro (BLR) Klimiankou, (FRA) Molard, (ITA) Boem,
(POR) Gonzalves, (BLR) Novikau, (FRA) Domont, (ITA) Cattaneo, (UKR) Topchanyuk ,
(GER) Kern vantano 30 secondi di vantaggio sul gruppo. Lungo la salita finale è un
susseguirsi di emozioni e scatti. Quello decisivo lo opera il tedesco Julian Kern che mette
in fila i bielorussi Novikau e Klimiankou.

Julian Kern is the new European Road Champion under 23
The last hooray of the European Championships 2011 in Offida was offered by German
athlete, Julian Kern who won the most important competition, the under 23 road race:
Kern and four other riders broke from the group during the last of twelve laps and he
ended by beating them to the finish line. “This victory was a surprise for me too. – said
Kern – I was called on at the last minute and I wasn’t the team captain. Actually this is my
first victory of the season… just imagine how happy I am”.
Two Belorussian athletes also made it to the podium, Siarhei Novikau and Kanstantin
Klimiankou. Fourth was Ukrainian rider, Topchankyuk, followed in fifth place by Italian,
Mattia Cattaneo. It was Cattaneo who blew the leading pack wide open, breaking away
3km from the finish line. Among the protagonists was Italian rider, Fabio Aru, who was out
on his own for the whole middle part of the race.
With this under 23 road race, the European Championships come to a close. France
finished top of the 2011 medal list, followed by Italy, both with three gold medals. Then
Russia, Germany, Belarus, Belgium, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Norway and the Netherlands.
